Employment Information

Each year, we hire more than 900 seasonal employees between our Bristol Bay plant in Naknek and our Ketchikan plant to support the long salmon run—one of the most exciting and fast-paced seasons in Alaska. If you’re looking for a new summer adventure, this is your chance to be part of something unforgettable. We are always seeking motivated, hardworking individuals to join us, and we encourage you to apply!

While there are many different jobs at Alaska General Seafoods, most first year employees will do one or more of the following: sort, head, gut, clean, grade and prepare fish for freezing/canning. Rack fish for freezing. Break fish from freezer racks. Put frozen fish in boxes. Work on the can line performing one of the many different jobs functions. Sort, grade, clean, and package salmon roe.

Most salmon processing jobs are very repetitive and the working conditions can be cold and wet. Although this isn’t the ideal environment for everyone, it is a great opportunity for motivated individuals to work hard and experience one of the wildest places on the planet. Overtime hours are paid at 1.5 times your hourly rate and, with room and board included for both our Bristol Bay and Ketchikan processing positions, workers have the opportunity to save a nice sum of money in a relatively short amount of time.

experience alaska

Working for AGS gives employees the opportunity to experience one of the last great wild places. Bristol Bay is home to the largest wild salmon in the world and is a mecca for sportfishing anglers looking to experience world class fishing at the edge of the world. People from across the globe travel to Bristol Bay to fish for all species of wild Pacific salmon, rainbow trout, arctic char, dolly varden and grayling. Wildlife viewing is also spectacular in the summer months. During your time in Naknek or Egegik you can see coastal brown bears, bald eagles, many birds, caribou and more.

Ketchikan, located in Southeast Alaska, is known for its rugged beauty and abundant marine and wildlife. A popular destination for tourists, Ketchikan is frequented by cruise ships, but also loved by independent travelers and home to many sportfishing lodges and charters.
