Alaska General Seafoods is proud to be one of the best
seafood employers in Alaska. AGS offers competitive pay and our amenities
are first rate. Our housing facilities are clean and modern, and we are
committed to providing a safe workplace environment for all of our employees.
If this sounds good to you, here are some of the qualities that AGS looks
for in an employee:
- Available to work the full season - usually
from June 16th to July 22nd in Bristol Bay and June 25 to Sept 5
in Ketchikan.
- Physically able to stand and work long hours
and move heavy weights (on some jobs).
- Able to get along well with other people in remote
and sometimes adverse conditions.
- Not afraid of hard work and are not prone to
complaining.
- Willing to follow directions and abide by safety
rules.
While there are many different jobs at Alaska General Seafoods, most
first year employees will do one or more of the following:
- Head,
gut, clean, grade and prepare fish for freezing/canning.
- Rack fish
for freezing. Break fish from freezer racks. Put frozen fish in
boxes.
- Work
on the can line performing one of the many different jobs functions.
- Sort,
clean, and package salmon roe.
Most salmon
processing jobs are very repetitive and the working conditions can
be cold and wet, and have a pervasive seafood odor. Although this isn’t
the ideal environment for many people, it is a great opportunity for
motivated individuals to work many hours in a short amount of time.
